Collection Requirements
Indicate source Prepare site with 70% isopropyl alcohol, then povodine iodine & wait 1 minute, repeat with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry. BacT/Alert blood culture bottle must be at amient temperature, remove plastic top and disinfect with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Obtain patient sample and change needle before entering the culture bottle. Transfer a minimum of 10 mL of the sample into the aerobic bottle (blue label).

Overfilling of culture bottle.
Improper de-contamination of the venipuncture site or blood culture vial prior to collection of the specimen.

A fungal blood culture can be ordered using the same draw for a blood culture.
