Patient Preparation: Patient should fast overnight (12-14 hours).
Infants – draw prior to next feeding.
Draw blood in a plain red-top tube and protect from light while tube clots.

PROTECT FROM LIGHT.
Centrifuge, separate and send 1.0 mL serum (0.5 mL minimum) in an amber screw-capped plastic vial.
If amber tubes are unavailable, cover standard transport tube completely, top and bottom, with aluminum foil and place extra label on outside.
Transport specimen in amber bag.
Specimen will be rejected if it is not wrapped in foil and exposed to light
