1. Send fresh specimen in a tightly capped specimen container with proper identifier and requistion (see below).
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
All cytology specimens submitted for testing should have the following information included on the requisition. Containers must be clearly labeled with patient identifier. Specimens accepted only from physician’s or designee.

-Date of Specimen Collection
-Source of Cytologic Material (voided, CCMS, catheterized)
-Submitting Clinician’s Name
-MRN
-Pertinent Clinical Information
-Diagnosis Code

Yellow Urine Vacutainer (No Additive)
Alternate Collection Container
Sterile Urine Cup
Transport
Transport ambient immediately. If delayed more than 30 minutes, refrigerate before shipping.
Preferred Transport Temperature
Refrigerated
Processing
Refrigerate residual specimen until final report issued.
