Collection Requirements

Using a heel warmer to prewarm tube, draw 5.0 mL of blood into a prewarmed (37°C) red top tube. Wrap specimen in heel warmer and send to lab immediately. If collected by Irving, send by stat courier to Houghton lab immediately.

Processing

Allow blood to clot in 37°C water bath. Centrifuge at 37°C or ambient temperature. Do not use a refrigerated centrifuge. Keep sample at 37°C until after separation of serum from red blood cells. Send serum in a screw capped plastic vial.

If a cryoprecipitate is present, a cryocrit (quantitation)

will be performed at no additional charge.
