Collection Requirements

• Histology Lab must be notified at 583-6752 at LEAST 48 hours prior to collection to ensure that laboratory has the appropriate special processing materials, and technical coverage necessary.
• Specimens are to be collected Monday thru Thursday ONLY between the hours of 8am -11am.
• Do Not schedule on Holidays.

Do not put in formalin.

The muscle biopsy specimen should measure 1.5 x 1.0 x 0.5 cm, a little larger if additional biochemical studies are expected.

Wrap the fresh specimen gently in saline-moistened gauze to prevent drying artifacts, put within a specimen container, close the lid

Do not soak or float the specimen in saline, as it will create too much edema artifact.
